A Top Kitchen Trend for 2017

White Cabinets – A Growing Trend in Today’s Kitchen
White cabinets are back in full force. Just ten short years ago we were seeing a lot of kitchen cabinets in a natural wood – maple, oak or stained. It gave that warm cozy nature feeling to the kitchen. But after many years of that look, trends are moving to brighten things up and many people are going white with their cabinets.

To get this effect, you can refinish your cabinets or install new ones. Installing new cabinets gives you the right cabinet configuration, can improve your kitchen’s efficiency, and increases the value of your home. An alternative is to achieve this look with paint. However, if you repaint your cabinets, we highly recommend letting the professionals do this, as this can be very tricky. Professionals use special paint and apply it in a certain way to ensure a great look, it truly covers well, and stands up to years of daily wear.

Gray is the New White
“It is the new ‘it’ color, replacing beige,” according to Houzz contributing author Kelly Porter. Picking the right gray can be tricky. There are silver grays, purple or blue grays, and grays that are more medium and lean toward browns and beige. If you need help deciding on the best color, EMC offers a FREE color consultation to help you select the shade of gray that matches your flooring and furnishings.

Granite – Still a Top Countertop Trend
Granite is a popular choice for counter tops due to the variety of stone available and its durability. With little maintenance, it will last a long time a stay beautiful. According to HGTV, “Granite is available in hundreds of colors, both bold and muted, including shades of white, black, gray, green, blue, red, pink, yellow and tan. Patterns are speckled, dotted, veined and more. Every piece possesses its own mineral makeup, meaning each countertop is a unique work of art.” If granite doesn’t fit into your budget, there are other natural stones, such as marble and quartz, that are equally visually appealing and have durable wear characteristics.

Lights Trend – LED Lights
LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, are energy-saving light sources that last for years and offer mood lighting for any project. They can be used for task lighting, general room lighting, and accent lighting. Use them as under-counter lighting for evening ambiance in your kitchen or use them to highlight shelves for a unique look. The lights we used in this kitchen project are dimmable LED wired rope lights installed under the wall cabinets.
