Management Over the Years

In 1966, Harold Kilby and Bruce Nelson, while working for Aberdeen Mason, decided it was about time they started their own company. Kilby Nelson Mason Contractors was born. The company specialized in commercial masonry, brick, block and stone laying projects as well as occasional home improvement projects.

In 1972, as the company grew and brought on more clients in Harford County, the business was incorporated and its name was changed to Eastern Mason Contractors, Inc. Harold Kilby became the sole owner. Harold’s son, Larry Kilby, had been working with the business for some time helping his father serve both commercial and residential clients. In 1986, Harold and Larry become equal partners in the business. As time went on, the company was increasing its home improvement project client base and in 2000, Larry Kilby became the new sole owner.

David Snyder, Larry’s son-in-law, had been working in the business since 1994 and had been assuming more of the business and project management responsibilities of the company over the years. In 2007, it was time again for the next generation to step up and David took the reins of daily management of the company as President. David has sole responsibility for managing the business and is involved with sales, oversees management and business development, and ensures the company is poised for growth for the future.

Derrick Snyder, David’s brother, started working for the company in 1996, working his way up from mason tender and laborer to his present position as Operations Manager. Derrick handles sales, meets with clients, coordinates project management and delivery, and ensures clients are delighted with project results.

Kathy Kilby, wife of Larry Kilby, has worked in the business since 1986, supporting the company by handling the front office operation, including overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and the company’s accounting – keeping the administrative side of the business running smoothly.

Today, David Snyder and Derrick Snyder oversee operation of the company, while Larry Kilby is an onsite foreman, working with clients every day, helping Dave and Derrick attend to project detail. Eastern Mason Contractors, Inc. is now doing business as EMC Home Improvements, serving Harford, Baltimore, and surrounding counties.
